Glimpses of Belfast in the 1950's

This is not a formal history of the 1950s. It is an attempt to give a flavour of the times in and around Belfast. A queen was crowned, we were in the grips of a Cold War and "sputniked" by the Russians. Disaster anxiety was born and the angry young protesters of the '60s were raised and educated. It was also the era of Bill Haley, Billy Bunter, the Lone Ranger and Davy Crockett hats. Squeezed between the trauma of the Blitz and the horrors of the "Troubles" the 1950s have tended to be overlooked. Is it not time you visited?
